Often in small towns and villages, connectivity is poor with links to railways being haphazard, cycle networks inconsistent, and footpaths not joining up. As a result of this, four out of five journeys in our local area are by car.
We are working with local groups and organisations to improve the current transport links and provide green transport routes. These routes will link existing and new communities to each other, as well as to the existing infrastructure, thereby increasing accessibility and reducing our reliance on cars.
This element of our land strategy is aimed at connecting the local community by way of a network of cycle routes and paths across our land, promoting green travel and connecting the local villages in a more environmentally friendly way.
We are working with VeloCity, which features engineers, architects and planners, to re-imagine a future based around people, places, public transport and new technology. It addresses the most critical issues facing rural communities today, including social and health inequality, lack of connectivity and declining community facilities such as schools, shops and pubs.
The VTN is an association of parish councillors and other stakeholders committed to the promotion of better connectivity between the villages that surround our Estate. It aims to do this by reducing our reliance on cars and improving road traffic management, so as to facilitate and encourage more active travel in local communities.
