The Roundel

The Roundel is a circular garden feature centred on a decorative fountain and surrounded by formally maintained bedding. Benches are positioned around the space, allowing visitors to pause and enjoy views across this enclosed area of the gardens.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Roundel was kept in excellent condition and formed an important part of the formal garden layout. By the early 21st century, however, the structure and planting required significant restoration.

The pond features 12 water jets arranged around its perimeter, producing a continuous circular flow of water. These jets direct water towards the centre, highlighting the cherub figures and re-establishing the Roundel as a functioning and visually balanced garden feature.
