As you wander through our Gardens and Parkland you may notice that there are some substantial changes happening. Our Head Gardener Andy Mills is leading a project to completely transform our Formal Gardens which will be the biggest change to our landscape in over 100 years. Andy brings ambition and expertise to the Gardens, aiming to restore lost features and realise their full potential.

The Rockery
Our new Rockery draws inspiration from mediterranean rock gardens and the original design by Capability Brown at the Cascades. Now an abundance of colour, scent and foliage the area is bursting with carefully chosen shrubs, perennials and trees. Built using stones which were taken up from the Great Lake during the 2022 Lake Dredge project, the Gardening Team have worked hard to already made it an established part of the Water Terraces, and now working on other Rockery areas which will look similar.
The Rose Garden
One of our most treasured spaces, the Rose Garden restoration is a long term project aiming to return it to the original 1800's design. This work has been well underway over the past year as a new pathway leads you through, and the centrepiece statue has been cleaned and repaired.The team have planted with over 8,000 Alliums that flowered this spring and helped break up the soil in preparation for 200 new varities of rose, which will be planted in early 2027. Despite the restoration still ongoing this summer will also see a stunning display of recently planted Dahlias bringing a spectacularly diverse range of blooms to the Rose Garden.
The Temple of Flora
This Grade II listed Temple of Flora had become so engulfed by dense shrubs and an imposing iron fence that even long-serving members of our gardening team had never seen it. Now fully uncovered and made accessible once more, the Temple has had overgrowth cleared to create a stunning viewpoint of the lake. The team are building a new temple flower garden which pays homage to the original exotic feature from the Victorian period. Planting of fragrant trees, shrubs and tender perennials has already begun. We have also recently opened the Temple of Diana and Temple of Health, allowing you to head inside and get some shade from the warmer weather.
