The cradle was a wedding gift to the 9^th Duke of Marlborough and Consuelo Vanderbilt from her Mother Alva Vanderbilt.

It is a copy of one in the Doge’s Palace in Venice that Alava had seen on a visit and felt would be a perfect cradle for her future grandchildren.
