Antonia Keaney will take a look at how the Marlboroughs and their friends embraced some of the outlandish 18th century fashions and quickly adapted to the exciting changes in outerwear, underwear and make-up which had first become popular in the French Court.

Petticoats, stays and pockets were a staple part of any woman’s wardrobe, just as waistcoats and wigs were part of a man’s - and make-up of course was considered essential for both - with or without the addition of lead, cochineal – and the occasional mouse!
