The Butterfly House

Visit the Butterfly House in the Walled Garden, home to butterfly species from all around the world. Located in the Walled Garden, it has welcomed visitors to its vibrant tropical climate since the early 1980s.

The Butterfly House has been given a fresh look for 2024, making it more accessible and immersive for visitors, as well as an even better environment than before for its tropical butterfly species, including Red Lacewing, Emerald Peacock, the stunning Blue Wave as well as several Zebra Finches.

A host of new spring flowers including Amaryllis and Fritillaries sit alongside exotic plants from Africa, Madeira and South America. With more emphasis on tropical fruits including pineapple, mango and papaya for the butterflies’ diet, to closely resemble what they would eat in the wild.
