The Butterfly House

Step into a vibrant world of fluttering wings in the Butterfly House, nestled within Blenheim Palace's historic Walled Garden. Since the early 1980s, this tropical oasis has captivated visitors with its diverse collection of butterfly species from across the globe.

Newly renovated for 2024, the Butterfly House offers an enhanced experience for both visitors and its winged inhabitants. The redesigned space boasts improved accessibility and a more immersive environment, allowing guests to get closer to nature than ever before. Marvel at the graceful Red Lacewing, admire the iridescent Emerald Peacock, and be mesmerized by the stunning Blue Wave butterfly. Zebra Finches also flit among the foliage, adding their cheerful presence to this tropical paradise.

The Butterfly House's lush ecosystem has been carefully curated to mimic the butterflies' natural habitats. Exotic plants from Africa, Madeira, and South America create a verdant backdrop, while new spring blooms like Amaryllis and Fritillaries add splashes of colour. To enhance the authenticity of the butterflies' diet, an increased emphasis has been placed on tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, and papaya, closely replicating their wild food sources.
