Carmen Alvarez

Assistant House Manager

How long have you worked at Blenheim?

"Three and a half years. Nearly two years within the House Team."

What made you want to work at Blenheim?

"Blenheim is a very important historic house and its heritage is worldwide known. As an art historian, Blenheim was one of my dream places to work when I moved to England."

Tell us a bit about your role:

"I assist the Head of House and Collections, Kate Ballenger, to keep the Palace and public side to high standards; supervising the preservation and conservation of the collection, annual deep clean, environmental monitoring, condition reports and cataloguing. Working alongside a great team of professionals, we also make sure that all our facilities are always perfect for our visitors."

What is your career highlight/most memorable moment so far?

"My first Palace deep clean last year, being part of exhibitions set up, such as Yves Klein, learning how to work in a living house, because from a conservation point of view, every day you must affront a new challenge. You never stop learning…"

What is your favourite thing about coming to work each day?

“Every day is different! We are always extremely busy, and I get to work and meet professionals from different fields. It’s a great work environment.”
