Forestry and Arboriculture Level 2 Apprenticeship
Did you go straight into your Apprenticeship from school, if no what did you do previous to this role?
After school I went into mechanical engineering at Coventry University and voulenteered in my spare time as a groundskeeper, I then realised I wanted to do something more engaging and found this apprenticeship.
What made you apply for an apprenticeship?
I was studying engineering and voulenteering as a groundskeeper in my spare time and realised I much preferred working outdoors and found this apprenticeship and was really engaged by the description and location so I applied.
Why did you choose Blenheim Estate and what attracted you to our apprenticeship scheme?
The qualifications offered place me in a good position to start my career in the industry, I was also impressed by the Estate's Carbon footprint goals aswell as the history.
What are your key roles/ responsibilities?
Assisting the Forestry team in most endeavours such as: planting, harvesting trees, making firewood, path clearing, etc...
What do you like best about the job?
The team is very welcoming and knowledgeable about silviculture and the local area, the collaboration with nicholsons means that I have access to a strong team of arborists who are very informative and keen to teach.
How are you finding the apprenticeship and how is it helping you progress?
So far the apprenticeship is informative and engaging, I am enjoying working with industry veterans and relatively new blood too as they provide a wider range of perspectives than a simple course could.
What do you hope to gain and once your apprenticeship has finished?
I hope to gain a wealth of knowledge and skills in the field and certificates that I can use throughout my career aswell as the practical knowhow needed to apply them effectively.
