Rooftop Views returns for a limited time until 31st March 2026

Please be aware the viewing platform lift is currently out of operation as we carry out works to the front of the Palace, we apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Step onto our specially designed Rooftop Platform and take in sweeping views across the Estate, from the Grand Bridge and the Great Court to the Column of Victory.

Along the way, you’ll witness the intricate restoration work up close, gaining a behind the scenes glimpse of how we’re preserving Britain’s Greatest Palace for generations to come.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply searching for the perfect photo opportunity, this elevated experience promises something unforgettable.

Welcome to the Palace Rooftop Experience. Please have your cameras ready! Do note that there are 109 steps to the viewing platform, so get ready and adhere to the following safety rules:

  • You must be at least 110cm tall to access the Experience
  • Children MUST be supervised at all times
  • No smoking anywhere on the route
  • Only small backpacks are permitted
  • Please wear practical shoes, no high-heeled shoes or flip flops
  • No running up the staircases
  • Please stick to the one-way system
  • On hearing the fire alarm, make your way to the nearest exit for evacuation

Accessibility Information:

  • Not suitable for Mobility scooters or Pushchairs.
  • Not accessible for wheelchair users

It is important to note that the following may impact on your ability to participate:

  • Heart conditions
  • Pregnancy
  • Vertigo, dizziness or any other conditions that may cause loss of balance
  • Fear of heights
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Visual impairment
  • Depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Back, joint or limb injuries
  • Severe or uncontrolled asthma
  • Having suffered a seizure in the past six months

Tour Information

  • Please be aware that Rooftop Tours include walking on a narrow walkway, with exposure to weather. In certain conditions, access to the Experience will be paused by the team, including during high winds, and wet/icy conditions.
  • We suggest you do not come on the roof-top tour if you have any knee or back or heart issues that may be affected by walking up the stairs on to the platform or if you are heavily pregnant.
  • When climbing or descending the stairs please keep to the left/right and hold on to the handrail.
  • To manage numbers we will operate a count in/out system. This may mean some delays on busy days.
  • This is a working environment. Please be aware that there may be dust, noise and smells in the area that you may find unfamiliar.
