6th Duke of Marlborough

The one who ordered that his papers be burned.

Duke from 1840 - 1857

Although the 6th Duke of Marlborough, George Spencer-Churchill, was at Blenheim Palace for 17 years, very little is known about him and his time as Duke. This is because he ordered his records and documents to be destroyed after his death.

What we do know is that he was a Member of Parliament and made many rousing speeches to his fellow MPs. He was also responsible for moving the kitchens at Blenheim Palace from their original position in the East Courtyard (Kitchen Court) to inside the Palace itself.
