We are Disability Confident

Post date: 11th August

We have recently signed up to a government scheme showing our commitment to become a better and more supportive workplace for employees with disabilities.

The Disability Confident Scheme, launched by the Department for Work and Pensions, works with employers to ensure that employees with disabilities are recruited and have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.

The scheme is not limited to those with physical disabilities but also provides support and advice for employers with staff who have learning difficulties as well as hearing and sight loss.

Sarah Morris, Head of HR at Blenheim says: “Being able to recruit from the widest possible pool of talent means that we can find the very best employees for the roles that we look to fill.”

She continues, “We have always supported our staff, providing additional support and flexibility to ensure we can offer a safe environment for them to develop and thrive at what they do best. Having a disability should never be a hindrance to enjoying a successful career at Blenheim, and we are pleased to be able to work with our staff to equip them or the environment with any practices or tools that enable them to achieve.”

“Blenheim has already implemented a variety of steps to support our existing employees with disabilities, by signing up to the Disability Confident Scheme we are looking forward to enhancing our company offer to them and to new employees as well.”

The scheme offers resources to employers and means that those with disabilities can feel confident in applying for work with businesses that show an outwardly positive commitment to working together. We have already expanded our recruitment practices to ensure job seekers are aware that they are actively looking to recruit regardless of ability.

“Our ethos is to recruit for attitude and personality, we can train the skills needed for the role.” - Sarah Morris, Head of HR

We have also committed resources to offering a variety of holistic activities for staff, improving their mental wellbeing in the workplace as well as courses to enhance their professional development.

Employing over 339 members of staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the local area.
