In the news: Find out about how to book Greener Events at Blenheim Palace
GREENER EVENTS
Blenheim Palace is 300 years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Palace and the people who have been connected to it over the years are of great historical importance. It is our duty to help preserve this historical monument by protecting the environment that it is set in. As a responsible business we want to extend our duties globally, towards the environment and society.
The team at Blenheim Palace are already committed to reducing our environmental impact and to working in a sustainable way. We want to raise awareness of these responsibilities, and we ask our suppliers and clients to join us in these efforts.
We would encourage the following to create Greener Events:
• Events can be organised electronically
• Carbon emissions for travelling delegates and speakers can be minimised
• Energy usage can be reduced.
• Recycling can be practised.
• Environmentally thoughtful measures can be adopted when making decisions about the event.
How can Blenheim Palace Hospitality help you to have a greener event? Venue Choice:
• Blenheim Palace is set in beautiful Capability Brown landscaped parkland, it is a World Heritage Site, you will find it hard to find a more beautiful, unspoilt setting
• Blenheim Palace is easily accessible by public transport, by coach and by bicycle.
• We can Email the organising team and delegates a PDF map covering public transport options
• Social media can be used to set up a system for transport sharing for delegates
• Wireless Internet Access is available for Webinars and connecting with colleagues in other parts of the
country.
Cutting ours and your CO2 Emissions
• Energy is reduced by closing windows if the heating is on and switching off lights.
• Clients are asked to utilise natural daylight wherever possible during conferences to reduce our electric bill.
• All rooms have natural daylight so lights are not always required
• The Palace’s principal water supply is pumped from the lakes on the Estate and treated on site, which saves energy.
• Waste food is diverted from landfill so that it doesn’t release the powerful greenhouse gas, methane
Catering & Locally Produced Food and Drink
• We use fair trade products where possible including tea & coffee
• We ask you to confirm the numbers of people attending the event in advance so that our chefs can plan volumes in advance to reduce waste.
• Our menus are prepared from raw ingredients on site.
• We don’t keep our fridges stocked with food, only food required for the event.
• Where possible our produce is both seasonal and locally sourced. Organic products are considered.
• Blenheim Palace Natural Mineral Water is available if you require bottled spring water.
• Fish is from sustainable Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) accredited sources.
• We reduce the amount of packaging by bulk purchase items where possible and use a decant service for fruit and vegetables.
• Catering waste is recycled where possible including plastics, cardboard and glass.
• 95% of food and liquid waste goes to our local anaerobic digester to power 4000 homes locally.
• Some of our suppliers are carrying out multi drops and some using electric vehicles.
Reducing Waste
• Brochures, Event contracts, Payment Requests and Invoices are emailed where possible.
• All documents are emailed or scanned to reduce the quantity of paper we use on site.
• Leaflets are now made from 100% recycled paper.
• Conference Packs are now only produced for the organiser.
• Our Packaged products are 100% recyclable and packaging has been reduced.
Blenheim Palace continues to look at ways we can become more sustainable and help with the environment.
