Local Community

At Blenheim Palace we are committed to helping local communities thrive. See below all of the different types of projects that we undertake. From providing land for the development of playgrounds, and giving local schools a chance to play and learn in our woodland, to donating flowers to our local town's annual festival of gardening, we are always finding new ways to give back.

Garden Projects

Garden Projects

  • Woodstock in Bloom is a celebration of gardens which takes place in our local town. The Blenheim Palace Gardening Team gives advice on plantings and supplies this event with summer bedding and spring bulbs every year
  • The Blenheim Palace Estate provides Woodstock Social Club with garden produce and plants for their annual Harvest Festival charity sale
  • Every Easter and Christmas, we supply St Marys Church in Woodstock and St Martin's Church in Bladon, where Sir Winston Churchill is buried, with foliage and flowers
  • We supply the Campaign to Protect Rural England (C.P.R.E.) with plants for their annual plant sale
  • We donate all of the money collected in the Butterfly House pond to Helen and Douglas House Hospice. Every year, we donate on average over £700

Land Projects

The Blenheim Palace Estate has provided land for:

  • The extension of the cemetery in Woodstock
  • A new allotment in Woodstock
  • A 'Millennium Wood' Community Woodland in Woodstock
  • Woodstock Town Football Club
  • The building of approximately 70 affordable houses in West Oxfordshire
  • The building of playgrounds at Budds Close and Rosamunds Drive schools

We also currently provide allotment land in Cassington, Stonesfield, Charlbury and Bladon.

In addition to this, Blenheim Palace provides local economic benefits, attracting customers to local businesses and building a great reputation for our surrounding towns and villages. It is important to Blenheim Palace to be an active part of the community and give back as much as we can. We believe that our success and the success of the local community go hand in hand.

  • We donate more than 100 Christmas trees to local parishes, churches and schools, including a giant tree for Woodstock Town Hall
  • Students at three local schools are part of our 'Forest School' programme, and are welcomed onto the Estate once a week to learn and play in our woods. A further two schools are signing up to the programme this summer
  • We provide access for numerous Scout groups to the woodlands on our Estate
  • We also provide access for Abingdon and Witney College to practice forestry in Pinsley wood, and allow Kidlington Fire Service regular access to our woods to train county firefighters
  • As part of the 'Acorns to Ancients' Project, we have donated six bags of Blenheim Oak acorns to Doncaster HM Prison. The project involves inmates growing their own trees and reeping the benefits of them
  • Our Forestry Team members have carved wooden furniture for Woodstock Primary School's Mud Learning room, and have provided Springfield School with carved log seats
  • The team has also donated lengths of wood to Oxford Woodcraft Folk for children to learn carving whilst at summer camp
